Data and Methodology

Dataset
NHANES 2017-March 2020 Pre-Pandemic ( NHANES 2017-2020 2020 , Primary dataset)
Survey years
2017-2020
Sample size
557 participants
Reference population
US civilian non-institutionalized males aged 20-29 from NHANES 2017-March 2020. Includes the full population (not restricted to healthy individuals) to reflect the population distribution.
Exclusion criteria
  • Missing serum ferritin measurement (LBXFER)
  • Missing or zero MEC sample weight (WTMEC)
  • Age outside 20-29 range
Notes
Percentiles computed using the combined pre-pandemic MEC weight (WTMECPRP). Serum ferritin measured as LBXFER in ng/mL (Roche Cobas e601 immunoassay). Ferritin rises with inflammation, and this full-population distribution includes participants with inflammatory conditions.
