About This Dataset

Serum copper, selenium, and zinc are not available in the NHANES 2017-2018 or 2017-March 2020 public laboratory files. LabNorms uses NHANES 2015-2016 CUSEZN_I for these serum trace elements. These analytes were measured in a one-third subsample, so LabNorms applies the file's published WTSA2YR subsample weight directly.

Limitations

  • US population only (distributions may differ in other countries)
  • Cross-sectional design cannot establish causal relationships
  • One-third subsample yields smaller per-slice n than full MEC analytes
  • Data from 2015-2016; distributions may have shifted in the intervening years
  • Serum selenium is not interchangeable with whole-blood selenium from other NHANES files
